It was one of the closest cook-offs in the history of Motiva Enterprises’ and Whitney Bourgeois and Dirk Bercegeay were this year’s top winners at the company’s annual Jambalaya Cook-Off, which is also the Motiva’s annual United Way kick-off.

Bourgeois and Bercageay’s culinary skills beat out 24 other company teams. It was a first time win for the duo. “Cooking for the United Way is a good thing to do for our community,” said Bercageay.

The competitive cooks began heating up their pots at 4am outside the refinery at Tezcuco Plantation, and the day’s fun and food ended up raising almost $8,000. Motiva’s total contributions for 2014 campaign are expected to reach close to $300,000 for the Capital Area United Way.
