Gonzales Weekly Citizen

Berteau, Clarence Joseph

He passed in Gonzales on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the age of 85. While in the U.S. Navy, he was a Hospital Corpsman 3rd class and a Veteran of WWII and Korean Conflict. He had a Pharmacy Degree and was the Owner/Pharmacist of Berteau's Pharmacy and M&B Shoe Store, both in Gonzales. Burial in Hope Haven Garden of Memory, Gonzales.

Boudreaux Jr., Mark Anthony

He passed away on March 26, 2014 at the age of 45 years. He graduated from L.W. Higgins High School, Class of 1986. He served his country as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Marine Corps during Desert Storm, achieving the rank of Corporal. He worked as District Manager (Baton Rouge/Lafayette) for Winn Dixie Supermarkets and previously worked with Wal-Mart and managed several area stores, the last of which was #532 (Gonzales, LA). He was a Reserve Officer with the Gonzales City Police Department and was a founding member of the Wild Pigs Motorcycle Club, Bayou Chapter. He was also a member of Rotary International and worked to establish Project Kidz Kove, a park in Gonzales for special needs children. He served officially as fundraising committeeman and unofficially, as a dedicated and tireless volunteer of this community project. Interment Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale.

Broussard Sr., Joseph Aubrey

A native of Hobert and a resident of Gonzales, he passed away at 7 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014. He was a retired machinist with Exxon. Interment in Hope Haven Cemetery in Prairieville.

Carlin, Barbara Belle Bostrom

She passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Baton Rouge. She was 84 and was a native of Atlanta, GA. She lived in New Orleans until 1967 and then became a resident of Prairieville. She was a pioneer in the Ascension Real Estate community and broker/owner of Carlin Real Estate from 1969 until 2004. She was a Deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office where she retired after 27 years of service. As per her wishes, she donated her body to the Louisiana Anatomical Association for medical research and teaching. A private memorial service will be held by the family.

Clampitt, Carroll Glenn “Red”

He passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was retired from Local 198. He was was known by many as the “Mayor” of Graveyard Island. Interment was held at Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales with military honors by the Fort Polk U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Clark, Phillip 'Soup'

A retired plumber and resident of Geismar, he passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at 12 p.m. He was 76. Interment in First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

Cornelius, Gertie Dupre

A resident of Prairieville, she passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014. She was 80. She was a retiree of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board where she worked as an aide for special needs children on the school bus. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Davis III, Leon John

A native of Donaldsonville and a resident of New Orleans, he passed away March 18, 2014 in New Orleans. He was 44. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 29 at St. Peter United Methodist Church, Donaldsonville.

Edmonston Sr., Murphy Hayward “Chick”

A native of Galvez and a resident of Gonzales, he passed away at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was 86 and was a member of the New River Masonic Lodge 402. Interment in Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery.

Giarrusso, Donna Buisson

Visitation for Mrs. Donna Buisson Giarrusso, age 54, was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Ourso Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at Ourso Funeral Home chapel, 1 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014, with Fr. Gerald Lefebvre officiating. Interment in Hope Haven Mausoleum in Prairieville. A native of Harvey, Louisiana and resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mrs. Giarrusso passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Tennessee. Donna grew up in Harvey and relocated to Chattanooga 12 years ago. She worked as a substitute teacher at Harrison Elementary School in Chattanooga. The school was a very special place to Donna. The people there were like a second family to her. Donna loved her family and friends. She had a big heart and a huge smile that would light up a room. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, Chris Giarrusso of Chattanooga; son, Taylor Ryan Giarrusso of Chattanooga; daughter, Jennifer Bouquet Tureau and husband Steven of Gonzales; parents, Robert and Betty Buisson of Harvey; sisters, Loretta Buisson and husband Hylas of Gretna, Cheryl Fontaine of Harvey; brother, Robert Buisson, Jr. of Harvey; grandchildren, Cooper and Jax Tureau and nieces, Courtney, Sara and Jordan. Kendrick, Gladys Mae Landry

A native of French Settlement and a resident of Gonzales, she passed away Sunday, March 30, 2013, at Heritage Manor at the age of 88. She was a retired clerical worker for Vulcan Chemicals and a former member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, as well as other social groups. Visitation was held Wednesday, April 2 at Ascension Funeral Home.

LeBlanc. Mercedes Marie 'Mert'

A native and resident of Sorrento, she passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She was a homemaker and was 88 years old. Interment in New River Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Amant.

Lemann, Sr., Robert Paul

A native and lifelong resident of Donaldsonville, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at age 65. He was the President of Palo Alto Plantation, the farm on which he was born, worked and adored his entire life. He was also the President of Lemann's Farm Supply for the past 20 years. He served as a Director on the boards of Palo Alto, Lemann's Farm Supply, Graugnard, Inc, and several other family businesses. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order while attending Louisiana State University and was an active member of Farm Bureau, serving as parish president during the 1980s. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi / Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial were held April 2 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville. A private burial followed.

McDonald, Gerald “Big Mac”

He was 63 and was a resident of Gonzales, He passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Promise Hospital of Baton Rouge. Interment in Gerald Cemetery.

Templet, David Joseph “Big Dave”

He passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014. Visitation was held Monday, March 31 at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. He retired from Turner Industries with 35 years of service as a Superintendent. He was a 32nd Degree Mastor Mason who belonged to Ascension Lodge No. 251 and Terrebone Fellowship Lodge 481.
