ChemFriends Week recognized during Parish Council meeting

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed Nov. 3 - 9, 2013 as ChemFriends Week in Ascension Parish. President Martinez read the proclamation aloud during the Oct. 17 Parish Council meeting in Gonzales.

The ChemFriends Expo, an event with the objective of raising interest in science and chemistry among sixth-grade students parish wide, will be held on Nov. 6 and 7 at the Gonzales Civic Center from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. ChemFriends Expo is celebrating its 17th year said organizer and Air Products employee Jobie Larimore.

Larimore said about 1,800 students will attend this year’s two-day event. Larimore said members of the community may visit the event on Community Night, Nov. 7 from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m.

“It is an absolute joy for us because we get to show the kids what we do every day,” Larimore said.

Larimore thanked the event’s sponsors including Ascension Parish Government, Air Products, Athlon Solutions, BASF, C.F. Industries, Dupont, Honeywell, Methanex, Motiva, Occidental Chemical Corp., PCS Nitrogen, Rubicon, Shell Chemical, Westlake Chemical, Williams, Gonzales Fire Department, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Ascension Parish School Board and Southern University.
