Memorial for Arizona firefighters is set for 2 p.m. today
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning and Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner
Mike Strain announced plans to hold a small public memorial to honor the 19 firefighters killed
while fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire in Yavapai County, Arizona. This ceremony is being held in
conjunction with the Louisiana State Firemen's Association, the Louisiana Fire Chiefs'
Association and the Professional Firefighters of Louisiana.
In a joint statement, Fire Marshal Browning and Commissioner Strain stated, "It is with great
sorrow that we announce plans for this ceremony in honor of these brave firefighters. Both the
citizens of the state of Arizona and the entire country suffered a tremendous loss yesterday.
We owe a great deal to those who selflessly put themselves in harm's way every day to protect
us. Our heart and prayers go out to the family, friends and fellow firefighters of these heroes."
The ceremony will be held today, July 2, at 2 p.m., at the Louisiana State Firefighter's
Memorial located on the grounds of the State Fire Marshal's Office, 8181 Independence
Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The public is invited to attend and share in honoring those
who have paid the highest price and to let them know that they will never be forgotten.
