Ascension School Superintendent says to please vote on May 4

Ascension Schools Superintendent Patrice Pujol sent a letter to the community to remind everyone to vote in the election on May 4. School funding tax renewals will be on the ballot. Below is her letter:
Parents, guardians and community members:
I am writing to thank you for your ongoing support of the Ascension Parish School System. In addition, I want to inform you of an important funding issue which will affect all of the citizens of our parish.
The Ascension Parish School Board has called for important school funding renewals that will be on the ballot this Saturday, May 4th. The dollars raised from these taxes will be used for teacher salaries, technology and for general maintenance. These renewals are for existing millages; they are NOT new taxes. If approved, the funds would be renewed for another ten year period.
Renewal number 1 is for 21 mills and generates $20 million annually dedicated for teacher salaries. Funding renewal number 2 is for 8 mills, and is earmarked for classroom and security technology, generating $7.9 million per year. Renewal number 3 totals 4 mills and is dedicated to maintenance and repair of school facilities throughout the district to generate approximately $3.8 million each year. These funds are vital to the operation of our schools.
Please remember to vote on May 4. It's as easy as one, two, three. As always, we thank you for your continued support of our public schools.
Patrice Pujol, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Ascension Parish Public Schools
