Speaker of the House Chuck Kleckley announced Friday that State Representative Clif Richardson of District 65, Baton Rouge, has resigned, effective January 2, 2013. Due to the vacancy in the office, Speaker Kleckley has called for a special primary and special general election in District 65, for the purpose of electing a State Representative.

Rep. Richardson will be leaving his position in the House of Representatives because he would like to devote his time to maintaining his health.

In his letter of resignation to the Speaker, Richardson said, "I have been blessed to have served as Representative for District 65 in the House of Representatives and to have served my constituents and this great State to the best of my abilities. Not being able to give my best, I know it is time for someone else to step in and serve."

Speaker Kleckley expressed his support for Rep. Richardson and commented, "My colleagues and I in the Legislature have enjoyed working with Representative Richardson; his service to the House is appreciated. We wish him the best and hope he takes the necessary time to focus on his health."

According to a proclamation issued by Speaker Kleckley, the primary election in District 65 is set for Saturday, March 2, 2013, and the general election for Saturday, April 6, 2013. Candidates for office can file notice between Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 and Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, ending at 5 p.m.
