Back to School Giveaway a Success

Darrow community students, grades kindergarten through 12, were all given the chance to receive free school supplies on Aug. 2

Facilitated by Darrow Citizens United and sponsored by Rubicon, LLC, the event was held at the Darrow Community Center, Darrow.

Guests speakers were District 58 State Rep. Ed Price, District 3 Councilman Travis Turner, Richard Brown, former Ascension Parish School Board member Roy Quezaire, Jr, representing Rubicon. Also in attendance was Ascension Parish School Board Director of Middle Schools, Gwen Price and principals from Sorrento Primary, St. Amant Middle and St. Amant High School.

A special tribute was given for Leo Graves, Sr. - the man who helped start the Darrow Citizens United committee. His wife, Leona Seraphine Graves received a plaque in his honor.

More than 150 students received free school supplies for the upcoming school year, to begin Aug. 10.

In addition to the school supply giveaway, blood pressure checks were administered by Lakeidra R. Randall, RN and food was served.

Door prizes were donated by Premiere Fleet Specialists, Marvin Gros, Travis Turner and A thru Z Janitorial Services.
