The barrels are out!

Anna Roberts Special to The Citizen

It is that time again. Time that we wrap up one school year and start thinking about the next one. As you pack up this year and find yourself with gently used uniforms that are not needed anymore, please donate them to one of the seven Volunteer Ascension Blue Barrels. You can find the Barrels at these seven locations Dutch Cleaners, Lejeune's Cleaners, Sac's Western Store, Kean's in Prairieville on Airline, Kean's on Hwy 44, Kean's in Gonzales, The Uniform Post. The Barrels will be out from June through July. Uniforms will be redistributed to students in Ascension Parish that are in need. Volunteer Ascension provides school uniforms to students in K-8th grades in Ascension Parish schools. Volunteers are needed to collect, sort, repair and distribute uniforms all summer. If interested in Volunteering to help, please let the Volunteer Ascension office know.

In 2012, School Uniforms's 11th year, over 5,008 uniform items were collected at a value of $21,350 and distributed to students in need K-8; over 142 volunteers logged nearly 388 volunteer hours. We are hoping to have the same success again this year. Every child deserves the right to start school with the basic necessities. Help us make that happen!
