The Ascension Fund has hired Dr. Elizabeth Nealy as its new executive director,  and relocated its office to Prairieville.

Nealy replaces Mary Kruse who retires in December after 20 years of service to the Ascension Fund and Ascension Parish Public Schools.

The program mission is to enhance public education in Ascension Parish. To accomplish this goal it awards $500, $1,000 and $2,500 grants to winning applicants.

The Ascension Fund was established in 1991, and since then, has awarded 980 grants to teachers and schools, investing more than $1.2 million in improved teaching and learning. Last year the Ascension Fund awarded 60% of the requests it received.

Through program, which was begun through the Rotary Club of Gonzales, business leaders, community activists, and individuals support Ascension Parish schools by a commitment to ensuring a quality education for every child in Ascension Parish.

“I look forward to raising the endowment so that we are able to fund more requests,” Nealy said.

The new Ascension Fund office is in the InfiniEdge Software building on 14320 InfiniEdge Way, in Prairieville.

“I am excited to begin a new phase in the Ascension Fund's history,” Nealy said. “We will celebrate our 20th year anniversary, initiate a capital campaign, and increase the grant dollars that are available to our schools and teachers,” said Nealy.

Peggy Walker, president of the Ascension Fund Board of Directors, said the board looks forward to providing continued support for area teachers. “We have an enthusiastic and committed board, one of the best school systems in the state, and some of the finest teachers in the country. Moving in the right direction, the Board looks forward to supporting quality teaching through enhancement grants and improving the successful learning.”
