Nicholls awards diplomas to record number of graduates

THIBODAUX - Nicholls State University held commencement exercises Saturday, May 23, awarding more than 530 degrees.

With 608 degrees having been awarded in fall 2008, the spring 2009 commencement marked the first time Nicholls has awarded more than 1,100 degrees in a single academic year. The previous record was 1,067 – attained in 2003-04.

The degrees awarded on Saturday were conferred and presented by Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president. The Hon. Yvette Kane, 1973 Nicholls graduate and chief judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, delivered the keynote address. Kane is a native of Donaldsonville.
