Volunteer Ascension to kick off 8th Annual School Uniform Program

Staff reports

Volunteer Ascension will once again collect recycled uniforms for distribution to students in need from kindergarten through eighth grade in Ascension Parish schools.

Barrels will be in place on May 21 for clean, repaired used uniforms to be dropped off through July at the following locations during normal business hours: The Athletic Center, Dutch’s Cleaners, LeJeune’s Cleaners, Uniform Post, Salvation Army and Kean’s the Cleaners.

More than 5,600 uniform pieces were recycled and distributed to students through Volunteer Ascension’s 2008 program.

Generous monetary donations from Ascension Parish residents, business, an Entergy Community Grant and collaboration with St. Vincent DePaul’s “Uniforms for Kids,” helped provide a limited amount of new uniforms as well.

To participate in helping children in need, donations to purchase new uniforms in sizes not collected can be made to:  Volunteer Ascension School Uniform Program, P.O. Box 1564, Gonzales, LA 70707-1564.
