LaKesa Dixon

The Ascension Parish School Board unanimously approved the appointment of LaKesa Dixon recently as principal of Lowery Elementary School in Donaldsonville.

Dixon has been the assistant principal of Lowery Elementary School since August 2008. She replaces Shelia Savoy who had been principal of the school since May 2005. Savoy is vacating the post after recently being appointed to supervisor of elementary education for the school system.

Prior to becoming assistant principal at Lowery, Dixon was principal for ten years at Charity Christian Academy located in Baton Rouge.

Before moving back to her hometown of Baton Rouge, Dixon worked as an educator in Atlanta.

“I am looking forward to building quality relationships with the Donaldsonville community,” Dixon said. “It is necessary for all concerned parties, those that are compassionate about the future of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, and our nation, to rally behind and support of our team of educators as we raise the bar on student achievement. The ultimate student achievement comes when all stakeholders believe and speak the same thing – ‘high expectations, for every child’. Failure is not an option and average is not good enough.”

Dixon graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1995 from Oral Roberts University. In 1999, she earned a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Southern University.
