“This program reminds students that just as they look up to someone who is their hero, someone is looking up to them as a hero,” said a school spokesperson.

“Because of this, they need to avoid giving in to peer pressure and avoid things like drugs and alcohol.”

During the program, Haynes asked volunteers what they wanted to be when they grow up.

“She then provided inspiration that could help them achieve that goal,” added the spokesperson.

Haynes, 24, is a graduate of LSU and works at the Louisiana State Capitol.

She is currently Miss Natchitoches City of Lights and will compete in the Miss Louisiana Pageant in June.

Haynes competed last year and was fourth runner up in 2001 when she was Miss Louisiana Teen.

She has also competed on Start Search and sang for Randy, Simon, and Paula twice in an effort to compete on American Idol.
