Parish colleges receive River Region Chamber scholarships

River Region Chamber of Commerce donated $1,000 to River Parishes Community College Foundation for the use of scholarships for deserving students. The River Region Chamber of Commerce  recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Louisiana Technical College – Reserve Campus and River Parishes Community College, to be awarded to deserving students during the 2009-10 academic year.

Executive Director Chassity McComack, 2009 Chairman of the Board Rhonda Hotard and Public Policy Chairman Henry Friloux met with administrators to discuss happenings with the education system and how the River Region Chamber can continue to be additive and supportive in enhancing the future workforce.

McComack, executive director of the River Region Chamber of Commerce said, “We are very excited about presenting these scholarships to assist area students further their education through technical training; this will ultimately contribute to providing local businesses with the educated workers that they need.”

The scholarships were created from proceeds from the Chamber’s first Golf Tournament in October 2008.

As the event grows year by year, so will the contributions, the organization said.
