Galvez Primary School hosts Family Literacy Night

The cafeteria at Galvez Primary was buzzing with excitement as the students and families entered the Dr. Seuss themed event.
The students at Galvez Primary, along with their families, attended Family Literacy Night at the school Feb. 17. The evening was geared towards activities that parents could do at home to help children to read and be able to comprehend at higher levels.
Five classrooms were set up, each with a reading based activity: phonics, comprehension, phonemic awareness, vocabulary and fluency. In each room, students were also given packets of ideas and games to do at home.
Refreshments, door prizes, websites and literature were also given to each family. Any literacy materials that were left over will be made available for parents to check out and utilize at home.
“Family Literacy Night was a huge success and Galvez Primary is looking forward to next year,” said a school spokesperson.
