This past Sunday morning at approximately 6 a.m., firefighters from the Prairieville Fire Department responded to a home fire at 15005 Beau Jon Avenue which later resulted in the death of a 15 year old young man.

Upon arrival of the fire department, Prairieville firefighters quickly entered the burning building and rescued Antonio Collins. Firefighters administered emergency medical care and Collins was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He was then transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Medical where he died of his injuries on May 27 at 8:30 p.m.

The State Fire Marshal's Office in partnership with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating this tragic fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation and at this time no suspicious circumstances have been discovered. There were no working smoke alarms in the home at the time of the fire.

Fire Marshal Browning stated, "This is a terrible loss, the firefighters did all they could to save this young man. We must remember that 'Smoke Alarms' save lives. If your family does not have them, act today and install them in your home."
