St. Amant man arrested on indecent behavior with a juvenile

APSO Report
Troy Johnson

38-year-old St. Amant resident, Troy Johnson, was arrested on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile. The arrest occurred on Jan. 6 after detectives received information that he made inappropriate sexual advances towards a 15-year-old girl, according to Major Kevin Hanna.

Major Kevin Hanna said the mother of the 15-year-old girl notified deputies that her daughter had been touched inappropriately by Johnson, who had been living in the home with the victim and her mother. The mother of the victim also added that Johnson asked her daughter if she wanted to have sex with him on several different occasions over the past few months.

As the investigation continued, detectives revealed that Johnson is a Tier II Sex Offender and is up to date and in compliance with his annual registration with the sheriff’s office.  A Tier II Sex Offender is classified as a sex offense against a victim who is a minor and will have a 25-year registration period conducted semi-annually.

Johnson has been arrested six times on charges stemming from forcible rape, carnal knowledge of a juvenile and domestic abuse battery charges dating back to March 1997. Upon Johnson's Aug. 2006 release from prison, he began registering as a sex offender.

He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Jan. 6. No bond has been set.
