On Sept. 14, in the courtroom of the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc, Lavell Gant, 37, of 1218 Old Vacherie Road, Vacherie, was sentenced in the attempeted murder of Ansley Jackson case that took place on May 24, 2014.

The sentencing will see that both of Gant’s prosecutions – Attempted second degree murder (50 years of hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence) and Convicted felon possessing a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon (20 years of hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence) – run consecutively.

Gant, a third time offender, was prosecuted by 23rd JDA Assistant District Attorney, Bruce Mohon, in a trial that came to an end on June 10, in which Gant was found guilty of all charges. In the June trial, Mohon saw to it that evidence and testimony would lead to a firm conviction.
