Four arrested on drug charges after two-month investigation
On Aug. 19, narcotics detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police arrested four individuals on an array of charges including drugs and weapons charges, according to Sheriff Jeff Wiley.
As a result of a two-month long investigation undercover detectives were successful in purchasing a quantity of methamphetamine from a woman on Bourgeois Road, Gonzales. During the course of the investigation detectives identified the woman as 31-year-old Denise Alvarez.
APSO detectives, along with State Police, executed a search warrant at 13393 Bourgeois Road, Gonzales, and seized approximately 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine, a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of ecstasy, and records of drug sales transactions, drug packaging, scales, pipes, nearly $2,000 in cash two vehicles, and five weapons (three handguns, one rifle, and one shotgun). Two of those handguns were stolen.
At the time detectives executed the search warrant, three other individuals were in the residence along with Alvarez and they too were arrested on drug charges, added Sheriff Wiley.
Alvarez was arrested and charged with distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. She has been previously arrested eight times with charges stemming from aggravated battery and drug charges.
Quinton Hall, 30, 1201 S. Stacy Ave., Gonzales, was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kevin Purdue, 27, 4494 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd., Baton Rouge, was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of weapons, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shannon Covington, 31, 13393 Bourgeois Road, Gonzales, was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of weapons, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, illegal possession of stolen firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has been previously arrested ten times with charges stemming from simple burglary, theft and drug charges.
All were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and are awaiting bond.
