Two arrested in residential burglary in Darrow

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of a residential burglary in progress on Fitzgerald Drive in Ascension Trace Subdivision in Darrow on yesterday, June 12.

Dispatch maintained contact with the caller who reported that one suspect who was described as a black male armed with a handgun was dropped off by another black male suspect who was driving a blue Nissan truck that had a Cabela’s bag with long guns in it, according to Chief Tony Bacala.

Upon deputies’ arrival, one suspect was removing a dirt bike from a residence on Fitzgerald Drive, deputies arrived at the residence and apprehended the suspect identified as Brannon Ellis, 18, armed with a handgun after a short pursuit.

Deputies then patrolled the area and observed a blue Nissan truck in the driveway of 5128 Hemingway Drive and two black male teenagers were standing in the yard. When deputies attempted to make contact with the two males they took off running into the residence. A short while later, deputies heard movement in the attic of the residence and noticed a hole in the ceiling of the kitchen area where someone stepped through the attic flooring.

Deputies located Steven Joseph, 19, and also located a Cabela’s bag, long guns, and a blue book bag in the attic, added Chief Bacala.

Detectives arrived on scene to take over the investigation and continued to search the residence, as well as, the suspects’ residence where they recovered stolen weapons that consisted of bolt action rifles and two assault rifles, as well as, other items stolen from the victim’s residence.

In addition to the residential burglary, both suspects were charged for a shed burglary that occurred in the same subdivision on June 10 where two dirt bikes were stolen, which have not yet been recovered.

Steven Joseph, 19, of 5128 Hemingway Drive, Darrow, was arrested on June 12 and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal carrying of weapons, criminal trespassing, damage to property, theft of firearms, simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and resisting an officer.

Brannon Ellis, 18, of 5206 Seneca Drive, Darrow, was arrested on June 12 and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal carrying of weapons, criminal trespassing, damage to property, theft of firearms, simple burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and resisting an officer.

Both were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where no bond has been set yet.
