Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying a female who stole a wallet at Walmart in Prairieville and made several charges at area stores totaling over $2,500, says Major Kevin Hanna.

Ascension Parish Sheriff's Detectives began the investigation on July 29 and learned that fraudulent purchases of electronics and gift cards were made as a result of the wallet theft. Detectives discovered the gift cards were used at various Wal-Mart stores in the New Orleans area.

The female suspect also attempted to make additional purchases using the victim's credit card. Fortunately those charges were declined, and the card was deactivated.

Detectives later revealed the suspect went to a bank in Hammond and used the victim's driver's license photo in order to obtain money from the victim's account which also resulted in a failed attempt. The suspect fled the scene as Hammond Police were notified. The Hammond bank captured the suspect on surveillance video.
