Sheriff's Office announces arrest in dead dog case

On Monday, May 20, a dog was found dead in an open field on Black Bayou Extension Road; the Sheriff's Office launched an investigation and later arrested 25-year-old Jacob Blackwell, according to Major Kevin Hanna.
The Sheriff's office responded to a field on Black Bayou Road where a dog was lying in the middle of the field where his legs, mouth, and neck were wrapped in electrical tape.
Ascension Parish Sheriff's Detectives began investigating and learned that Blackwell was the owner of the dog. Blackwell had several dogs that he was keeping and that this particular dog was being uncooperative. As a result of the dogs non compliance he kicked the dog to death. Blackwell then taped the dog up, and abandoned it in a nearby field in an attempt to make it seem as though someone else had killed the dog.
Jacob Blackwell, of 40341 Black Bayou Ext., Gonzales, was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals. He was booked in to the Ascension Parish Jail.
