Two arrested for vehicle theft

Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala reported that on April 25 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., a 2003 Lexus was reported stolen from Ascension Catholic Church's parking lot in Donaldsonville.

Surrounding agencies were notified of the stolen vehicle and a short time later the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office located the vehicle in a parking lot off Highway 3125, near LA Highway 70.

After further investigation, a witness advised deputies that a black-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area on Highway 3125 and was later identified as a black Pontiac G6 vehicle with a Texas license plate.

A short while later, St. James Parish Sheriff's deputies were notified of an attempted vehicle theft at Auto Zone in Lutcher. Once at Auto Zone deputies located the black Pontiac G6 occupied by Erick Byington and Ashley Nichole Lee of Texas. A search of the Pontiac G6 resulted in deputies locating clothing and other items that was reported stolen from the 2003 Lexus. Additional property was also recovered from the G6 that was stolen from six other vehicles Ascension Catholic Church.

Erick Byington, 32, of 8308 Shasta Drive, McKinney, Texas is facing charges in Ascension Parish for theft of a motor vehicle and six counts of simple burglary of a vehicle. He is currently incarcerated at the St. James Parish Jail on unrelated charges and fugitive from another jurisdiction (Ascension Parish).

Ashley Nicole Lee, 23, of 8308 Shasta Drive, McKinney, Texas is facing charges in Ascension Parish for theft of a motor vehicle and six counts of simple burglary of a vehicle. She is currently incarcerated at the St. James Parish Jail on unrelated charges and fugitive from another jurisdiction (Ascension Parish).
