Friday morning shortly before 1 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 941 south of LA Hwy 30 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 47 year old Gonzales resident Benjamin J. Leboeuf.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Leboeuf was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on LA Hwy 941. For unknown reasons Leboeuf's vehicle ran off the roadway to the left, entered a ditch and struck a driveway embankment. The Corvette then became airborne, rolling numerous times before coming to rest in a private driveway and catching on fire.

Leboeuf sustained fatal injuries from the crash. It is unknown whether or not Leboeuf was wearing a seatbelt, and impairment is unknown at this time. Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Leboeuf to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver's attention away from the road.
