Gonzales man arrested for operating meth lab

Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Tony Bacala reported the arrest of a Gonzales man for operating a Methamphetamine Lab.

On Feb. 26, agents with the Louisiana State Probation and Parole went to Scott Bateman's resident at 13215 George Rouyea Road for a routine probation visit. Bateman was on probation for possession of methamphetamine and simple burglary.

During the visit agents discovered what appeared to be methamphetamine lab and drug paraphernalia. Agents then contacted the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics detectives and when detectives arrived on the scene they confirmed that a methamphetamine lab was present. Narcotics detectives, along with the Hazardous Materials team, removed the methamphetamine lab from the residence and properly disposed of the materials.

Scott Bateman, 36, was arrested and charged with operating a clandestine lab, possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Bateman is currently incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond.
