On Monday, Oct. 29, shortly after 5 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to St. Elizabeth Hospital where the 72-year-old victim was being treated as a result of being sexually assaulted and beaten.

Investigators learned the victim had stayed overnight at a couple's home in Prairieville. The couple told investigators that an individual they only knew as "Jose" showed up to visit. The man of the house had met "Jose" approximately a year ago in Baton Rouge through mechanic work and had associated with him on a couple of occasions since then. He came to the couple's home and visited with the man and they remained outside of the home most of the night.

As it became late the victim went to the guest bedroom and fell asleep. Unknown to the victim, "Jose" was later allowed to sleep at the couple's home. The victim was awakened with "Jose's" hand over her mouth where he beat and raped her. After she was raped and beaten the victim managed to flee the bedroom and alert the homeowners of what occurred.

Investigators worked through the night into the early morning hours of Oct. 30 in an effort to positively identify and locate "Jose". Shortly after midnight "Jose" was identified as Elmer Alexander Esquivel Ramos.

At 2:30 a.m. Elmer Alexander Esquivel Ramos, 33, of 43218 Moody Dixon Road Prairieville was arrested and charged with aggravated rape and second-degree battery. He is currently incarcerated in the Ascension Parish jail without bond. U. S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents have also placed a hold on Ramos due to his illegal citizenship in the U. S.
