Sheriff reports three arrests for underage drinking at a parish facility
On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Sheriff's Office responded to St. Amant Recreation Center located at 45404 Stringer Bridge Road in St. Amant after receiving reports of a large fight. When deputies arrived most of party goers had left the scene. However, deputies found evidence of alcohol left behind at the facility and received information that a gun may have been brandished during the fight, that someone may have been stabbed along with an individual being struck in the head with a chair.
The Sheriff's juvenile detectives conducted and intense investigation into the matter when they discovered that the St. Amant recreational facility was rented for the party by 42- year-old Donna Boeta of St. Amant. Detectives interviewed Parish Government officials and learned that Boeta had spoke with them via telephone where the contract was read to her and she agreed to the terms in full, within the contract there was a section asking if alcohol would be present, where Boeta answered "yes." The parish government contract also required Boeta to purchase a one million dollar insurance policy and security must be present. Boeta later visited Parish Government office and signed the contract.
During the course of the investigation detectives conducted a number of interviews with individuals who attended the party and learned that Boeta had rented the facility for a 17-year-old high school student and family friend to host a Halloween party. The 17-year-old hostess had sold bracelets at school for the party. Detectives further learned that security was not present for the party and there was not constant parental supervision except for a couple of parents that stopped in when they dropped their children off. The 17-year-olds parents did not attend and Boeta had attended the party early on but had to leave due to an illness in the family. By the time she returned the Sheriff's Office had arrived for the reported fight. Fortunately, when the fight broke out one of the parents was there and announced the party was over. The 17 year old hostess' parents did not attend the party.
19-year-old Desmond Price was questioned about the fight and alcohol consumption where he confessed to consuming alcohol and being "jumped" by an unknown individual at the party. He stated he did not know any of the participants involved in the fight.
Price, of 5171 Wildwood Drive Sorrento, was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol under the age of 21. He was issued a misdemeanor summons and released pending court.
A 16-year-old juvenile of Gonzales was questioned about the incident and only confessed to alcohol consumption at the party and stated he was not involved the fight, but was sucker punched by an unknown participant. He was arrested and charged with public consumption of alcohol under the age of 21 and released to his parents pending court.
Donna Boeta of 11340 W. Paula Street St. Amant was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. She was issued a misdemeanor summons and released pending her court date.
The Sheriff's Office detectives had difficulty in indentifying most of the participants of the party due to lack of cooperation. They were given limited information by the individuals they interviewed, adults and minors alike, during the investigation. Therefore, the information of the gun and knife play was unsubstantiated as well as individuals involved in the fight.
"We will not tolerate adults promoting and hosting parties where underage drinking will take place," said Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley.
He added his office will be paying close attention to these types of cases and they will be dealt with quickly and aggressively
