Unrestrained driver killed in crash, alcohol suspected factor

Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash Sunday that claimed the life of a Walker man. The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on LA 1025 (Arnold Road) west of LA 447 in Livingston Parish.

Troopers' preliminary investigation revealed that Larry E. Dunlap (W/M, age 66) of Walker was driving a 1996 Isuzu pickup east on Arnold Road when he entered into a left-hand curve and ran off the road to the right. The pickup ran into the ditch, struck a culvert, and came to an abrupt stop.  Dunlap was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected. He was airlifted to Ochsner Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and later succumbed to his injuries.  Troopers suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash and have submitted a sample of Dunlap's blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted, or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having had anything to drink, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seat belt.
