One Black Boar Hog – approx. 200 pounds

Pig was recovered from the area of 10169 Highway 431 in the St. Amant, LA. area October 8, 2011.

Any person claiming to be the owner of the above described livestock shall contact the Sheriff’s Office at 225 473-8671 during regular business hours no later than October 28, 2011. Owner shall pay $10.00 for each head of animal and $2.00 per day for the cost of feeding and caring for the livestock according to R.S. 3:3004 & 3:3005.

Mrs. Ronda Matthews spoke on the importance of student organizations in Career and Technical Education.  Donaldsonville High Agriculture student and FFA member, Joshua Delery, was unable to attend the meeting tonight, but was recognized for being awarded first place for his Supervised Agricultural Project at the Annual FFA Convention.  Ms. Matthews was honored to recognize St. Amant High School FFA Chapter for being named Gold Emblem Chapter for LA and was placed third in our state for program achievement.  They were also named State Winner for the Community Development Division.  On the National Level, they received the coveted ranking of 3 Star Chapter and for the first time in chapter history were chosen as a Models of Innovation Chapter for the work in Community Development.  This rates St. Amant High School FFA in the top 10 in the country for this division.  Members attending tonight were Dylan Schexnayder, Alanna Stroughter, Austin Carter, Miranda Thompson and Blaze Pertuis with advisors Mandy DeLaune and Chris Head.

Mr. Randy Watts welcomed everyone and said how fortunate we are in Ascension Parish to have the greatest teachers in the State of Louisiana.  He recognized the following winners at the school level for being named 2011-2012 Teachers of the Year.

Mrs. Pujol congratulated all of the Teachers of the Year and expressed how important it is to have phenomenal teachers.  She said that no one else is as important in a child’s education as a child’s teacher and expressed from the bottom of her heart her appreciation of the wonderful job teachers perform.  On behalf of the board, Mr. Price congratulated all of the winners and said that all of our teachers are winners.  He asked everyone to remain seated for a short video on bus safety.

Mr. Johnnie Balfantz and Mr. Chad Lynch presented a video on a bus safety campaign.  This video will be a public service announcement partnered by EATEL and the Sheriff’s Department.  Mr. Balfantz thanked Ms. Linda Lamendola for her help in creating this video.  

Mrs. Pujol thanked EATEL and the Sheriff’s Office for their partnership and support of Ascension Parish School System.

Mr. Price wished a Happy 74th Birthday to Mr. A.J. Nickens.

Audit findings for the 2010 Fiscal Year – Mike LeBlanc

Mike LeBlanc with the Postlethwaite & Netterville CPA Firm presented the financial review for APTC for 2010.  He explained that there are 3 levels of audits done by his agency and the level of compilation was used because of the reduced amount of revenue received by the Tourism Commission.  Mr. LeBlanc stated that there were no findings of noncompliance during the review.

Volunteer Program Discussion and Vote

Motion made by Cecily Boudreaux to seek volunteers from the community, colleges and volunteer organizations to serve as volunteer travel counselors at the Sorrento Welcome Center on weekends and during the week when employees are not able to work.  Second by Wally Taillon.

Finance Review

Discussed the Commission’s current financial report.   Hotel/Motel tax collection amount for May, 2011 was $23,169.50, for June, 2011 was $19,289.56, for July, 2011 was $20,543.26.  A report was provided to the Board regarding the expenses and funds received for the 2nd quarter of 2011 and the beginning of the 3rd quarter of 2011.  

Discussion: Car Lease Options

Due to a decrease in revenue, the Board is investigating options to end the current vehicle lease and enter into another municipal lease for a smaller adequate vehicle that gets better economical gas mileage.  This would result in a decreased lease expenditure as well.

Discussion: Copier Lease Options:

Due to a decrease in revenue, the Board is investigating options to end the current office copier lease and enter into another lease for a copier more appropriate for the Tourism Commission’s daily use and that would result in a decrease in the monthly lease expenditure.

Marketing / Advertising

Quarterly Report on Marketing/Advertising Events and Trade Shows

Ramon Gomez provided the Board with the list of meetings, events and activities that the Tourism Commission was involved in during the last quarter.

Discuss and Vote on Label Design for Revised DVD

Discussion was held on the  two designs submitted by the graphic design agency for the label for the revised APTC DVD.  Motion made by Cecily N. Boudreaux to approve design number 2 that was submitted.  Second by Wally Taillon.

A CERTAIN PIECE OR PORTION OF GROUND, together with all the buildings and improvements thereon, and all the rights, ways, privileges, servitudes, advantages, and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining situated in the PARISH OF ASCENSION, STATE OF LOUISIANA, in the east half of the Southeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 23, township 10 South, Range 3 East, Southeastern District of Louisiana and being more particularly described as LOT 6 of Sorrento Terrace Subdivision according to a map or plan of survey by Dyer and Moody, Inc., Consulting Engineers, dated January 2, 1967 and recorded at COB 231, folio No. 153 of the records of Ascension Parish. Said Tract 6 being located at the Southeastern most corner of Sorrento Terrace Subdivision and measuring approximately 75 feet more or less on the Brittany Sorrento Highway on its Southern Boundary by a depth of 155.0 feet more or less along its Western Boundary which borders on Oak Street, measuring 75 feet more or less in its Northern boundary and 155.0 feet more or less along its eastern boundary. Also, the Western 18 feet of LOT A adjacent to LOT 6 of Sorrento Terrace Subdivision. All as is more particularly shown on the above mentioned map or plan of survey, recorded at COB 231, folio 153 of the records of Ascension Parish, which is made a part hereof by reference.

And from the proceeds of said sale to pay petitioner by preference over all other claims, the sum of: ONE HUNDRED FIVE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED EIGHT AND 67 / 100 ($105,108.67) DOLLARS, along with interest and attorney's fees and all other costs including my own costs and charges.
