Clown Jessica and Clown Mickey spread the word about fire safety.

No your eyes were not playing tricks on you…those were clowns you saw on October 12 riding Gonzales Fire Trucks.

October is Fire Prevention Month and the Gonzales Fire Dept. has two very excited clowns helping spread the word.

Fire-Fly and Fire-Ant, better known as the “Fire Bugs” are going to local schools and daycares helping the firefighters carry the message. “Anything we can do to deliver the message of Fire Safety to our community is very important to our department.”, says Fire Chief Tracey Normand. “The Fire Bugs take this very seriously with a child friendly approach.”

The Fire Bugs actually attended a course given by the La. Bureau of EMS called “Clowning for Safety Program."

This program helped the Fire Bugs learn the importance of Safety and how to get the message out to children everywhere.

Members of the Gonzales Fire Department meet with students in the area to discuss fire prevention.
