Arrests made for fraudulent prescriptions

Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Tony Bacala reported six arrests for Obtaining Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) by fraudulent means from local pharmacies.

Over the past three months the Sheriff's narcotics division began conducting an investigation where several local pharmacies reported they had received bogus prescriptions for a variety of pharmaceutical substances that are commonly abused. During the course of the investigation the narcotics detectives discovered the prescriptions that were submitted to the pharmacies were either counterfeit or stolen prescription pads.

Additionally, the investigation revealed the bogus prescriptions were being passed to the Ascension Parish pharmacies by individuals from the LaPlace area in St. John Parish.  

The three month investigation yielded six arrest warrants being obtained by the Sheriff's narcotics detectives. On Oct. 4, detectives traveled to LaPlace where five of the six suspects were arrested and transported to the Ascension Parish jail and booked on the following charges:

Matthew James Bazile, 26, of 526 Oak Allee Drive LaPlace was arrested and charged with attempted obtaining CDS by Fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.

Timothy Michael Berteau, 24, of 424 Belmont Drive LaPlace was arrested and charged with obtaining CDS by Fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.

Drake Evan Decker, 21, of 768 Madewood Drive LaPlace was arrested and charged with obtaining CDS by fraud and attempted obtaining CDS by fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.

Christopher Edward Maher, 21, of 445 Greenwood Drive LaPlace was arrested and charged with obtaining CDS by fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $5,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.

Christopher Carlo Cottone, 25, of 2244 E. Canterbury Drive LaPlace was arrested and charged with obtaining CDS by fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $5,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.

On October 5, 2011 Bradley Mark Wandrei, 22, of 2164 Pebble Beach Drive LaPlace surrendered to Ascension Parish authorities where he was arrested and charged with attempted obtaining CDS by fraud. He is presently incarcerated on a $10,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.
