Ormet to hold job fairs for Burnside facility

Ormet Corp., in partnership with Louisiana FastStart™ and the Louisiana Workforce Commission, will conduct job fairs for craft, skilled-trade, powerhouse operator and industry laboratory technician applicants from noon to 7 p.m., Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24. Additional job fairs for hourly production workers and production operators will take place from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 through Friday, June 3, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. All job fairs will be held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, located at 9039 S. St. Landry Drive in Gonzales.

The job fairs will target applicants interested in hourly positions, ranging from highly skilled mechanic positions to general operator positions. Pay rates for hourly operator positions will range from $14.25 an hour to $23.75 an hour. Pay rates for hourly maintenance positions will range from $21.85 an hour to $27.55 an hour.

Orientation sessions will be offered every hour from noon to 7 p.m., except for Saturday, June 4, when orientation sessions will be offered every hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All applicants must successfully pass reading and math assessments, a background check and drug screening.

Upon the facility’s completion, Ormet is expected to become one of the top 10 economic-driver firms in Ascension Parish, as well as one of the top 150 economic-driver firms statewide out of more than 100,000 existing employers in Louisiana. The new facility, which will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is expected to create 240 direct jobs and to result in approximately 1,050 indirect jobs in the area.
