Bid shall include concrete foundation, electrical installation, diesel installation, final inspection, warranty startup, instructional literature, operator’s manual and parts list.

Whenever a public entity desires to purchase...machinery…. of a certain type and such purchases are clearly in the public interest, the public entity may specify a particular brand, make or manufacturer in the specifications let out for public bid…If a particular brand, make, or manufacturer is specified, the model or catalog number also shall be specified.

Whenever in specifications the name of a certain brand, make, manufacturer, or definite specifications utilized, the specifications, shall state clearly that they do not restrict bidders to the specific brand, make, manufacturer, or specification named; that they are used only to set forth and convey to prospective bidders the general style, type character, and quality of the product desired and that equivalent products will be acceptable…

The Parish of Ascension desires to obtain professional Engineering services for HMGP (Hazard Mitigation Grant Program) funds and subsequent implementation of that program.  The type of project involved is:

The Parish of Ascension has acquired funding through the FEDERAL HMGP to elevate fourteen (14) flood-prone structures (homes).  Eleven (11) of the homes are brick on slab, two (2) are wood frame on slab and one (1) is wood frame on pier and beam. The consultant firm(s) will be hired by the Parish to: Develop plans and specifications which meet the standards of HMGP and Louisiana bid law, to be bid on and performed by a qualified contractor.  

 The Parish of Ascension hereby requests qualifications from experienced and qualified firms to provide the needed services.

LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (LDEQ)

LAUREL PROPERTIES, LTD/ OLD DUTCHTOWN SUBDIVISION

 WATER DISCHARGE PERMIT

The LDEQ, Office of Environmental Services, is accepting written comments on a  Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (LPDES) permit prepared for Laurel Properties, Ltd, Old Dutchtown Subdvision, P.O. Box 65121, Baton Rouge, LA 70896.  The facility is located at the northeast quadrant intersection of LA Hwy 74 and I-10 in Gonzales, Ascension Parish.  Upon the effective date of the final permit, the LPDES permit shall replace the previously issued LPDES permit.

The principal discharge from this  source  made into an unnamed ditch, thence into Grand Goudine Bayou, thence into New River, waters of the state classified for primary contact recreation, secondary contact recreation, and propagation of fish and wildlife.  Under the SIC  4952, the applicant proposes to discharge treated sanitary wastewater from a privately owned treatment works serving the Old Dutchtown Subdivision.

During the preparation of this permit, it has been determined that the discharge will have no adverse impact on the existing uses of the receiving waterbody.  As with any discharge, however, some change in existing water quality may occur.

Written comments, written requests for a public hearing or written requests for notification of the final decision regarding this permit action may be submitted to LDEQ, Public Participation Group, P.O. Box 4313, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-4313.  Written comments and/or written requests must be received by 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011.  Written comments will be considered prior to a final permit decision.

MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE

MAYOR AND COUNCIL,

TOWN OF SORRENTO, MONDAY, May 2, 2011

6:00 P.M. ,

SORRENTO TOWN HALL, SORRENTO, LOUISIANA

Members Present:

Councilmen:  Randy Anny, Marvin Martin, Milton Vicknair, Lionel Melancon, Jr.

Clerk:  Paige K. Robert

Chief of Police:  Earl Theriot

Absent:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

   Mayor Pro-tem Randy Anny opened the meeting.  

Motion by Councilman Milton Vicknair and seconded by Councilman Lionel Melancon, Jr. to move agenda item to appoint mayor to the first item on the agenda.

   Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

YEAS:   Randy Anny, Marvin Martin, Milton Vicknair, Lionel Melancon, Jr.

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

Motion by Councilman Marvin Martin and seconded by Councilman Milton Vicknair to appoint Jason Adams as interim Mayor to fill the vacancy left by Brenda Melancon.   Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

YEAS:   Randy Anny, Marvin Martin, Milton Vicknair, Lionel Melancon, Jr

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

Jason Adams was sworn in by Judge A.J. Kling as interim Mayor.

Motion by Councilman Marvin Martin and seconded by Councilman Milton Vicknair to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of the mayor and council taken Tuesday, May 19, 2011.   Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

YEAS:   Randy Anny, Marvin Martin, Milton Vicknair, Lionel Melancon, Jr

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

   Motion by Councilman Lionel Melancon, Jr. and seconded by Councilman Milton Vicknair to approve the bills for the month of April in the amount of  $6,281.30.

   Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

Motion by Councilman Milton Vicknair and seconded by Councilman Marvin Martin to approve the beer and liquor license for Ryan’s Family Grocery.  Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

Motion by Councilman Lionel Melancon, Jr. and seconded by Councilman Milton Vicknair to remove former Mayor Brenda Melancon from the signature card at United Community bank.  Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

NAYS:  None

ABSENT:  Wilson Longanecker, Jr.

Motion by Councilman Marvin Martin and seconded by Councilman Lionel Melancon, Jr. to appoint Karl L. Scott as town attorney to fill the vacancy left by Erin Lanoux.   Motion carried.  Vote as follows:

There being no further business to come before the Mayor and Council and upon motion duly made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned.

A public hearing has been called by the Sorrento Zoning Commission for their regular scheduled meeting of Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 6:30 p.m., at the Sorrento Town Hall to consider a zoning change request from R-1(single family residential) to C-2 (commercial retail) submitted by Jerome Paul Kerek, Jr for his lot at 8134 John LeBlanc Blvd and Alonzo Kling for his lot at 8219 Lee Street.  The adjoining properties are located in S24, T10S, R3E in the Town of Sorrento.
