Injuries reported in Hwy 44 crash

An accident involving two cars occurred at the corner of Black Bayou Road and Hwy. 44 on Wednesday morning.

Hwy. 44 was the scene of traffic accident Wednesday morning as two cars collided when one was attempting to make a left turn onto Black Bayou Road from Hwy 44.

A Toyota was travelling north along Hwy. 44 and passing through the intersection at Black Bayou, according State Police Troopers. Travelling south along Hwy. 44 was a mini-van, turning left onto Black Bayou.

The minivan struck the Toyota, causing the Toyota to hit a utiity pole, wrap around it, then flip onto its roof, Louisiana State Police Troop A spokesman Russell Graham said.

At press time, the extent of the injuries was unknown, but are believed to be serious, Graham said. Troopers also believe seatbelts were not worn.

“This is a bad accident,” Graham said. “I cannot stress enough the importance of drivers wearing their seatbelts.”
