Volunteer firefighters attend training

Recently, a four hour training session on Self Contained Breathing Apparatus was attended by thirty-one Volunteer Firefighters from the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department.
The equipment is used by firefighters to enter spaces where the atmosphere could be immediately dangerous to life and health or may become oxygen deficient. The volunteer firefighters were properly instructed on how to inspect and don an equipment, stated Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc.
During the training session, conducted by Chief of Training Adam Gautreaux, each firefighter was trained on the proper inspection of the equipment, and the proper way to fill an self contained breathing apparatus bottle from a cascade system and air compressor.
The St. Amant Firefighters also went through a Maze Confidence Course.
The firefighters were also instructed on the proper handling of the equipment should it malfunction while they are inside a burning structure.
