Unrestrained driver killed in one-vehicle crash
Louisiana State Police Troop A reported a single-vehicle fatal crash in St. James Parish June 25 on Hwy 3125 near Hwy 64 shortly before 3 p.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Robert M. Jones, 58, of Lutcher was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer south on Hwy 3125 when his vehicle drifted off the roadway to the right, according to spokesperson TFC Russell G. Graham.
The vehicle traveled nearly 100 feet before entering a ditch and flipping onto its roof.
Jones was not restrained when the crash occurred and sustained severe injuries, Graham said. Acadian Ambulance transported him to St. James Hospital, where hospital staff pronounced him deceased.
Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
Troopers remind everyone that state law requires everyone riding in a motor vehicle to buckle up, regardless of seating position in the vehicle. Statistics have shown that the safest place for a person to be during a rollover crash is inside the vehicle.
