Mississippi fugitive nabbed in Prairieville

A fugitive from Columbus, Miss. was arrested in the parish Monday evening, Sheriff Jeff Wiley said.

Ascension Parish authorities received information June 14 from Mississippi authorities that Marshall Ray Burgin was wanted in Columbus for murder April 20 in one of their local nightclubs.

Mississippi authorities advised they had information that Burgin was hiding out at a relative's home on Stewart Road in Ascension Parish, Wiley said.

Detectives proceeded to 16439 Stewart Road in Prairieville where Burgin was taken into custody without incident, according to Wiley.

Marshall Ray Burgin , 25, of 302 19th Street, South Columbus, Miss. was arrested and charged as a fugitive from that state.

He is presently incarcerated in the parish jail in Donaldsonville awaiting extradition back to the Mississippi.
