Ex-school secretary arrested

Staff reports

Ascension Parish authorities booked a former school secretary after an investigation into the theft of about $10,000 in school funds, officials confirmed.

Roxanne LeBlanc, 49, of 22071 Hwy. 22, Maurepas, was arrested Feb. 1 on single counts of felony theft and forgery, according to jail and school officials.

LeBlanc, a former secretary at St. Amant Primary School, was released the same day on $10,000 bond.

A 21-year employee of the school system, LeBlanc resigned in May amid an investigation into bookkeeping irregularities at the school, a schools spokesperson confirmed.

The investigation results were turned over to the parish Sheriff’s Office.

As an “A” secretary, LeBlanc was the highest rank for a secretary at a parish school.

“A” secretaries typically work closely with the principal and handle bookkeeping, bill payment and bank deposits for the school.

The alleged theft apparently happened over a long period of time and in small amounts, according to school officials.

The investigation began after local merchants complained that the school had not been paying bills.
