Three die in Kenner crash

Staff reports

A Paulina couple and their son were killed Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 10 in Kenner.

Gerard Faucheux, 42, of Meadville, Miss., and his 72-year-old parents, Nelson and Shirley Faucheux, died in the crash, according to Kenner police.

Gerard Faucheux was driving his parents home to St. James Parish after taking his father to a medical appointment in Metairie. He and his sister Lisa Bacala, who is an employee of the Ascension Parish School Board, had been taking turns driving their father to dialysis appointments three times a week.

Carol Banks, 62, was arrested for reckless operation of a vehicle and hit-and-run driving after the crash, police said.

Banks apparently swerved from the left lane to the center lane in a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis and struck the Faucheux’s Toyota Sienna, causing it to cross the median and hit a Chevy Tahoe traveling eastbound.

Police officers stopped Banks, who had continued driving, at the Loyola Drive exit.

Banks was not drunk at the time of the incident, according to police.
