The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video of three individuals suspected in the theft of rental trucks and burglary of storage units in Sorrento.

Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in solving a theft of U-Haul rental trucks and a burglary of storage units in Sorrento.

Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said the incident happened just before midnight Dec. 16. The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of storage units being burglarized. The storage facility is accessed by a gate code only.

The thieves entered the storage facility property by cutting the fence near the railroad tracks, Bacala said. After gaining access, thieves cut nearly 40 storage unit locks with bolt cutters and loaded a large quantity of property into two U-Haul trucks.

A customer of the storage facility was in the process of placing belongings in one of the storage units when the customer happened onto the burglary, he said.

The customer immediately dialed in the gate access code and exited the property at which time the gate remained opened allowing the suspects to flee the scene in the trucks loaded with stolen property, according to the chief deputy.

The two stolen U-haul trucks were last seen south of Interstate 10 traveling northbound toward Gonzales on Hwy. 44, Bacala said.

The storage facilities surveillance camera’s captured images of three suspects committing the burglaries.
