Trailer fire brought under control

Firefighters from Ascension Parish fire departments work to extinguish a fire in a trailer Friday morning. The trailer was vacant at the time of the fire.

The St. Amant and Sorrento fire departments responded to a working trailer fire Friday around 5:45 a.m., St. Amant Fire Chief James E. LeBlanc said.

A St. Amant Gas Company crew making rounds discovered the fire and alerted Ascension Parish dispatchers. The fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the trailer when they arrived.

Galvez-Lake fire department was dispatched to the scene for another tanker.

The 22 volunteer firefighters on scene brought the fire under control in about 25 minutes. The trailer was vacant at the time of the fire. The fire appears to have started in the wiring and heater area, and the exact cause of the fire is being determined by the St. Amant Fire Department.

The Ascension Parish Sherriff’s Office and a ground unit from Acadian Ambulance also responded to the call.
