Two dead in apparent murder-suicide in Geismar

Staff reports

GEISMAR – A man shot his former fiancee and then himself outside of a house Saturday night where nearly 20 people were watching the New Orleans Saints-Dallas Cowboys football game on television.

Investigators said people inside the house heard gunshots, then found both Walter Robinson, 44, of Thibodaux, and Ruth Gustave, 50, of St. Gabriel, dead in the carport.

The shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. at the 37346 Anderson Road residence, according to Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala.

Robinson apparently shot Gustave, then himself, investigators said.

Robinson reportedly arrived at the house and asked Gustave to meet him outside prior to the shooting.

One of Robinson’s relatives called authorities 26 minutes before the shooting to warn that he had planned to kill himself and someone else, deputies said.

By the time deputies located Robinson’s jeep, the shootings had occurred, according to authorities.
