Man found guilty of child rape
An Ascension Parish man was found guilty Dec. 2 of aggravated rape of a child under the age of 13, according to 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin.
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested and charged Jeremy Landry May 30, 2007 with aggravated rape, cruelty to a juvenile, aggravated incest and molestation of a juvenile for allegedly raping a child under the age of 13, Babin said.
Landry was indicted on the aggravated rape charge Sept. 19, 2007.
Jury selection began Nov. 30, and the trial began Dec. 1. All state and defense witnesses were presented the following day.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 25.
Assistant district attorneys Joni M. Buquoi and Shawn R. Bush prosecuted the case for the state.
Judge Thomas J. Kliebert Jr. presided over the case.
