Prairieville man found guilty in rape case

Staff reports

A 12-person jury Nov. 18 found a Prairieville man guilty of attempted aggravated rape, according to 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin.

John Ryan Stephens, 27, faces up to 50 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, Babin said.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was deferred to a later date.

Judge Jane Triche-Milazzo ordered that the defendant be returned to the custody of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Stephens on March 26, 2000.

Assistant District Attorney O’Neil Parenton prosecuted the case.
