Troopers conduct checkpoint on Hwy. 42

Staff reports

Louisiana State Police Troop A, along with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Ascension Parish beginning at 8 p.m. on Hwy. 42 east of Hwy. 930 near Leblanc's Food Store.

Troopers, deputies and agents will be enforcing the state’s DWI laws throughout the holiday weekend in an effort to keep impaired drivers off our roadways and ensure the motoring public’s safety, according to Tpr. Russell Graham.

“Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or seriously injured because of impaired drivers,” Graham said. “Sobriety checkpoints are effective enforcement tools because they serve as a deterrent to impaired driving.”

He said not allowing impaired drivers to get behind the wheel of a car or boat and reporting possible impaired drivers to local police can potentially save lives.

The public is encouraged to share in the responsibility of keeping impaired drivers from behind the wheel. State Police can be reached by dialing *LSP (*577) on a cell phone.
