Baton Rouge police arrested a Gonzales paramedic after she allegedly stole drugs from an undercover detective posing as a patient.

Margaret “Peggy” Lignieres, 29, responded to an emergency call Friday at the Red Roof Inn on Boardwalk Drive in Baton Rouge, which detectives had wired with audio and video recorders, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Lignieres allegedly was caught on camera taking multiple pills out of prescription bottles inside the hotel room, the affidavit said.

She confessed to taking the drugs and showed a detective where she had stashed pills inside a plastic glove in the ambulance, according to the affidavit.

She said she had developed a prescription drug problem after injuring her back and had run out of medication, the affidavit said.

Lignieres, of 1135 E. Lynne St., was booked into the East Baton Rouge Prison on two counts of possession of Schedule II drugs and one count of felony theft.

Bond was set at $10,000.

Lignieres was placed on leave without pay following the arrest, according to an EMS spokesperson.
