Alcohol suspected in fatal crash

Staff reports

BATON ROUGE – An unrestrained, impaired driver died Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Jeremy P. Roy, 27, of Gonzales, was driving a 2009 Mazda MZ3 at around 3 a.m. Saturday west on Interstate 10, west of Hwy. 73, when he ran off of the roadway to the left.

The vehicle rotated, struck a tree and came to a rest against the tree, police said.

Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. A sample of Roy’s blood has been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
