Geismar man found guilty of two charges

Staff reports

A 12-person jury found Eric Lee Bennett of Geismar guilty May 20 of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and unauthorized use of a moveable, according to 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin.

Judge Jane Triche-Milazzo ordered a pre-sentence investigation and sentencing was deferred to a later date, Babin said.

Triche-Milazzo ordered that the defendant be remanded to the custody of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Babin added.

Bennett, 22, faces a sentence of up to 15 years at hard labor.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Bennett Feb. 8, 2008.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney O’Neil Parenton Jr.
