Two killed, two injured in suspected alcohol-related crash

Staff reports

Two Donaldsonville residents died and two women were injured in a crash near the Sunshine Bridge late Saturday night, according to Louisiana State Police spokesperson Tpr. Russell Graham.

He said troopers suspect alcohol use by 41-year-old Reginald D. Sanders of Donaldsonville to be a contributing factor in crash. Sanders was driving a 1992 Mercury Sable west on Hwy. 70, west of Hwy. 3125 in St. James Parish when it crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound lane, Graham said. Sanders was not wearing a seat belt, according to Graham.

The Sable struck a 2001 Nissan Altima head on, he said. The driver, 23-year-old Kristal Joseph of Donaldsonville, was seriously injured and later died at University Hospital in New Orleans, Graham said. Troopers do not suspect alcohol use by Joseph, he added.

Joseph’s two passengers – Whitley Lacey, 19, of Donaldsonville, and Caprice Brown, 21, of Baton Rouge – both sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance, Graham said.
