Teachers’ purses stolen, authorities ask for assistance

Staff reports
Store surveillance shows the two suspects in the theft of credit cards at Dutchtown Primary School.

Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals involved in stealing credit cards from a local primary school.

On Feb. 9 the Sheriff’s Office responded to Dutchtown Primary School where three teachers reported their purses were stolen when they momentarily stepped away from their classrooms.

Just hours later the teacher’s credit cards were used at the Mall of Louisiana and at restaurants in Baton Rouge, Bacala said.

Mall surveillance video captured the suspects loading merchandise into a new, grey Toyota RAV 4 SUV with a temporary tag in the rear window.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-INFO (4636) or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
